Music Theory and Practice in the Lowlands ?

Call For Papers
For the first time in ten years, the Benelux
Branch of IASPM is proud to announce a
conference to be held on Friday April 15th 2011,
possibly the conference will be extended with an
extra day on Thursday April 14th 2011. The
conference will take place at the Inholland
University of Applied Sciences, Haarlem and will
be organised in collaboration with International
Music Management students. We want to invite
students, academics, as well as musicians, music
journalists and other music practitioners to
submit a paper proposal and participate in the
conference. All papers will be in English.
The conference intends to bring together the
practical and theoretical side of popular music,
therefore papers that focus on practice as well
as papers that reflect theoretically on these practices will be selected.
For papers with a focus on music practice we
particularly welcome practical perspectives
regarding developments in the music industry and
new business models, as well as perspectives on
social media participation, online music writing, and online music marketing.
For papers with a theoretical focus we welcome
papers from the areas of cultural studies,
musicology, sociology, psychology, or any other
relevant area that has a link with music-related
practices. Possible research subjects include,
but are not limited to, music perception and
cognition, functions of musical listening, music
cultures and social media, social and national identities.
Haarlem is located at 15 minutes from Amsterdam
Central Station and 30 minutes from Schiphol Airport.
Please submit your paper proposals of max. 200
words, including your name, affiliation, paper
title and 5 keywords before January 31st 2011 to
