Call For Papers: Design Ecologies
Editors
Shaun Murray (University of Plymouth)
Neil Spiller (University College London)
Papers are invited for Design Ecologies
(http://bit.ly/designecologies
), a new international and trans-disciplinary peer-reviewed journal that
aims to foreground the inextricable connection between human
communication and ecological accountability in architectural design. This
burgeoning field has the potential to become a far-reaching discipline,
forging a community that crosses over into and out of architecture,
environment, interaction, urbanism, and performing arts and
communication.
Through original design exploration ranging in scale, the journal will
proffer a critical vision towards the built environment, and promote
ecological transitions within local and global contexts. It will
challenge the everyday emerging practices of architectural design by
offering a trans-disciplinary framework for design production.
We invite submissions of articles from any discipline. These should
explore a developing/recently completed project, have a strong critical
focus and seek to apply hitherto unexplored theoretical approaches to the
burgeoning field of design ecologies. The four areas of interest
include:
1. Ecological design visions.
2. Notational design visions about the use and application of notation as
a means of communication.
3. Instructional design visions.
4. Aesthetical design visions on aesthetics/about aesthetics.
We also welcome case studies, project profiles, practice profiles and
short reviews on publications and exhibits of 1–5 pages in length.
Burgeoning practices (submissions that deal with the processes and
theories of design ecologies) are also encouraged.
Submissions
Submissions are welcome from both scholars and practitioners.
Contributions may be between 3,000 and 7,000 words and should be
accessible to the non-specialist reader. Papers must be submitted in
English. Please refer to the Intellect style guide
(http://bit.ly/IntellectSG)
before submitting an article to this journal.
Please send all submissions to
(info /at/ eniatype.com), and specify the
nature of the article, e.g. ecological, notational, review exhibition
etc., in the subject heading of the email. Deadline for submissions:
Sunday 22nd August.
