There is a vacant professorship in Media and
Communication Studies, at Örebro University, Sweden
General information
Media and Communication at Örebro University is a
social sciences and humanities oriented
department, with extensive research activities
and a strong international profile. Media and
Communication studies consists of four
professors, five associate professors, eight
senior lecturers/associate senior lecturers, four
lecturers and 18 doctoral students. The
undergraduate level of the education has several
different specialisations and courses: media and
communication, digital media design, cinema
studies, public relations, global and political
journalism and international communication. At
present, research is mainly conducted within the
following areas: war journalism; media and
climate change; media talk and interaction;
language and politics; PR and political
communication; risk and crisis communication;
media, ethnicity and transnational relations;
cinema and visual culture in politics and
society; youth, media and civic engagement. In
research and in postgraduate studies the
department has a close collaboration with for
example rhetoric, the Swedish language,
sociology, informatics and political science.
Duties
The professor shall pursue research, supervise
doctoral students, and teach at undergraduate and
Master?s level education, as well at the
postgraduate (doctoral) level. The professors
have a special responsibility of managing and
further develop and strengthen the research
activities at the department, in general and
within their special fields of research. Duties
also include responsibility for the quality of
the postgraduate (doctoral) studies, and the
discipline?s internal and external forms of cooperation.
Qualifications
A person who has demonstrated both academic and
teaching skills in the discipline in question
shall be qualified for appointment as a professor.
Assessment Grounds for Appointment
Assessment for the appointment as professor shall
be based mainly on scientific merit and
competence in one or a few of the central areas
within Media and Communication Studies. Much
attention is also paid to the assessment of
teaching skills and the extent in which a
candidate possesses skills in developing and
managing research and education activities.
Regard shall also be paid to the degree in which
a candidate possesses skills in administration
and aptitude in interacting with the surrounding
community and informing people about research projects.
Since most of the professors at Örebro University
are male, female applicants will be given
precedence when qualifications are found to be equal.
