The Working Group for Communication and Politics of SOPCOM (Portuguese Society of Communication Sciences) organizes, in partnership with CAPP - Centre for Public Administration & Policies/ISCSP and with collaboration of LabTec/ISCSP, the conference "Digital Citizenship". This conference will take place in Lisbon on March 19th 2009, at the Institute of Social and Political Science (ISCSP), Portugal: entrance FREE.

Conference "Digital Citizenship" - SOPCOM / ISCSP
19th March 2009, Lisbon, Portugal

The Working Group for Communication and Politics of SOPCOM (Portuguese Society of Communication Sciences) organizes, in partnership with CAPP - Centre for Public Administration & Policies/ISCSP and with collaboration of LabTec/ISCSP, the conference "Digital Citizenship". This conference will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, on March 19th 2009, at the Institute of Social and Political Science (ISCSP) of the Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal: entrance FREE. The aim of this conference is to expand the debate of the multidisciplinary subject of Digital Citizenship. This conference brings together experts of Communication Sciences, Journalism and Media, Politics Sciences, Politics and Administration Sciences, Sociology, Health, and Engineering and Digital Systems.

The Working Group for Communication and Politics of SOPCOM, established in 2005, is a privileged space for the debate on the communication phenomena and its relationship with politics. In its course of action, has been developing the dialogue with Universities, Institutes and Centres of Research and Divulgation of the theoretical and empirical knowledge in this field. It has already taken several initiatives on the relationship between the media and the exercise of citizenship, communication in the electoral process and the impact of the media on public opinion. Given the importance of the "Digital Citizenship", in the national and international sociopolitical context, it is vital to discuss the fundamental challenges that are presented to overcome unresolved old problems, and consider among the experts the development of new forms of exercising citizenship.
