AHRC Midlands3Cities funding for UK/EU students

The Midlands3Cities Doctoral Training Partnership (M3C DTP) is a collaboration between the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University, De Montfort University, University of Leicester, Nottingham Trent University and The University of Nottingham. M3C is awarding up to 87 PhD Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) studentships for UK/EU applicants for 2017 entry. M3C provides research candidates with expert supervision (including opportunities for cross-institutional supervision), research training and access to a wide range of facilities, cohort events and placement opportunities with regional, national and international partners in the creative and cultural sectors.

The School of Media, Communication and Sociology at the University of Leicester is inviting applications from students whose research interests include:
Creative Industries New and Convergent Media
Critical Theory and Cultural Studies
Gender and Media
Media and Development
Online behavior and social networks
Cyber/digital securities, social movements
Film as mass communication
Media and domestic cultures
Media and Ethics
Mass Communications and Journalism
Public communication
Consumption; media audiences
Advertising and promotional cultures
Moral panics and public policy
Identity, emotion, embodied performances of belonging
Audio soundscapes in research design
Historical, qualitative comparative sociological research
Migration and collective memory
Communities of practice and learning

Media and Communication at Leicester is one of the UK's leading centres for research and teaching in media, communication and culture. In 2016, the Department is celebrating its 50th Anniversary. Following the conclusion of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, the department placed 15th overall for media research in the country, with 82% of research articles and books being rated as "world leading" or "internationally excellent". The Department of Sociology is one of the most prominent, oldest and influential in the country. It has a long and well-respected tradition in both teaching and research. As part of the school, Sociology remains as strong and active as ever, producing high quality research with an international reputation.
