[ecrea] Job announcement - Assistant Professor of Film Studies at University of North Carolina Wilmington

The Department of Film Studies at the University of North Carolina
Wilmington (UNCW) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant
Professor, starting in August 2016. Research interests should complement
the department’s existing historical and international expertise. The
successful candidate will teach courses in his or her areas of
specialty, as well as the department’s core course in film style and
aesthetics.

_Qualifications:_Candidates should possess a PhD in film studies or a
related discipline. ABD will be considered; however, PhD must be
obtained within the first academic year of employment. Strong preference
will be given to candidates with a PhD in film studies awarded prior to
August 2016. Candidates must demonstrate potential for excellent
teaching and scholarly productivity and a commitment to the department’s
mission to combine the study and production of cinema.

One of the premiere departments at UNCW, Film Studies is developing
integrated graduate programs in cinema studies and film production. Film
festivals, local and visiting scholars and filmmakers, and an assortment
of independent and international film screenings together create a
vibrant film community. The historic coastal city of Wilmington is home
to EUE Screen Gems Studios, one of the largest motion picture facilities
east of California, and the department has a robust working relationship
with both the studio and area filmmaking professionals. UNCW is
consistently recognized at a national level for academic excellence by
publications such as /U. S. News & World Report/, /The Princeton
Review/, and /Kiplinger’s Personal Finance/.
