AHRC South, West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership Scholarships 2015 and
PhD Study in Film at the University of Southampton

Film at the University of Southampton is delighted to announce a range of studentships within Southampton’s Faculty of Humanities as well as through the South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership (SWW DTP).

Southampton has a longstanding reputation for excellence in research in Film Studies, and has consistently been ranked highly in league tables. We achieved the best staff-student ratio and the highest spend per student in The Guardian University Guide 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. We also ranked 1st in the sector of Film and Media Studies for overall satisfaction as well as teaching quality, resources and academic support in the National Student Survey 2014.

Our staff cover a wide range of different research interests and expertise. Our research activities include national and international collaborative projects, major conferences and world-renowned publications. Our approach towards film and television can be defined by our focus on issues of cultural transfer and exchange, and on the strong perception of visual media as transnational and global phenomena.

We also have strong expertise in areas including:

  *   stardom and celebrity
  *   women's cinema
  *   popular cinema

SWW DTP
The University of Southampton is a partner in the SWW DTP consortium alongside the universities of Aberystwyth, Bath, Bath Spa, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter and Reading. The Consortium expects to fund around 50 studentships in 2015-16. For full details see the Consortium website:http://www.sww-ahdtp.ac.uk<http://www.sww-ahdtp.ac.uk/>/

Eligible applicants should register for the Information Day via the Consortium website by 10th November 2014. The Information Day will be held in Cardiff on 24th November 2014. Applications for funding open from 26th November 2014 and the closing date for applications is 12th January 2015.

Faculty of Humanities Funding
In addition to AHRC funding the following doctoral scholarships are available for Faculty of Humanities post-graduate applicants:

• Wolfson Foundation Scholarships in History, English Literature and Languages (£20,000 per annum for three years)
• University of Southampton Archival Scholarship (fees and maintenance)
• University of Southampton Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships (£7,000 per annum for three years)

To be considered for the above funding (non AHRC) you need to complete a University of Southampton application:
