Job Description

This position will provide high-level research assistance working on a School-funded project "Meetings, Discourse and Strategic Change" with Prof Ian Clarke, Principal Investigator and other colleagues in Edinburgh, Lancaster and Finland.

The research team has developed a major empirical data corpus of transcriptions of senior management team meetings in a FTSE 500 company. Funded originally by ESRC as part of its Advanced Institute of Management Research (AIM) initiative, in this new project, the team is now exploring the role of naturally occurring talk within and across meetings on the strategy process and their influence upon organisational change outcomes. The position is a significant opportunity for a linguist, with mentor support, to transition into a career in Business and Management, where there is a shortage of well-trained scholars, particularly those with a strong linguistic background.

Main Responsibilities (Approx. % of time)

1.	Responsibility for detailed proofing of existing audio transcriptions of meetings, identification of topics and sub-topics (35%).

2.	Detailed coding of text using qualitative software, research and collating literature (30%)

3.	Arranging and attending regular meetings of the research team, normally in Edinburgh or Lancaster (10%).

4.	Co-writing of papers for publication in leading Management and Linguistics journals, attendance and presentation of papers at conferences (20%).

5.	Co-designing and delivering discrete taught inputs on discursive skills, informed by the research project, for Executive, MBA and Masters courses to contribute to the School's Strategic Leadership initiative (5%).
