The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Department
of Computer Science and Applied Cognitive Science, Campus Duisburg,
Germany, invites applications for the following open position
(professorship temporary for 5 years)

„Professional Communication in Electronic Media/Social Media“

We are seeking a personality of international reputation to head the
research and teaching field „Professional communication in electronic
media/social media“. The applicant should have a background in at least
one of the disciplines communication science, technical communication,
psychology, journalism studies, sociology or similar. The personality
should support the department´s research and teaching focus on
“Interactive media and systems” by conducting empirical research as well
as teaching in the B.Sc./M.Sc. program “Applied Cognitive and Media
Sciences”. We expect experience in empirical research on and/or design of
communication in a professional context as e.g. within a company, in a
journalistic context, or in public sector institutions. Publications in
peer-reviewed journals, and profound experience with grant projects are a
prerequisite.

The requirements, according to German university regulations (§ 36
Hochschulgesetz NRW), are in particular a university degree, a PhD degree,
and additional scientific qualifications obtained as a junior professor,
or as documented by a post-doctoral degree such as a habilitation, or
through research activity at a university, a non-university research
institute, in
business, management or some other social sector.

For its work in gender mainstreaming, the University of Duisburg-Essen has
