Digital collections and digital services have become essential elements of a modern museum. They have become strategic tools to interact with audiences, to tap into creative industries and to strengthen alliances with research and education partners. Yet many museums have not yet set explicit strategic goals to exploit their digital collections and increase the impact of their digital activities.

The aim of this special session is to bring together heritage professionals, researchers, policy makers and digital media specialists to explore and discuss strategies for digital heritage services. These strategies can relate to serving user groups, to working with business partners and to improving competences within the own organisation. Special attention will be paid to business model innovation as a tool to design digital heritage strategies that enhance sustainability and drive innovation.
