We would like to invite you to the Arab Media Centre's (University of
Westminster) upcoming conference on Arab documentaries. Could you kindly
circulate this invitation widely among interested colleagues,
film-makers and research students. Registration is now open and early
booking is advised.

catalyst?

Filmmaker (including Arij/Scent of a Revolution, 2013, and My Name Is
Not Ali, 2011)
Author of Popular Egyptian Cinema (2007) and Arab Cinema (1998)
Arab documentary films that have proliferated since the start of the
Arab uprisings are part of a much longer and wider success story. Whose
reality finds expression through documentary film and what kind of
'reality' is represented? This event brings together filmmakers,
curators, scholars and researchers to discuss topics including:
• Processes and power relations in commissioning, funding and distribution
• Arab film festivals and their impact
• Current debates about documentary ethics and aesthetics
• Voices and representation: who gets to tell which story?
REGISTRATION AND PROGRAMME
Registration is now open Early booking advised
The £109 registration fee (£59 for students) covers the screening on 10
April and conference on 11 April, including conference documentation,
lunch, refreshments and administration costs.
Registration for the conference on 11 April is only £99 standard rate
(£49 for students).
