Doctoral funding call: PhD Studentships in Arts and Humanities at
University of Brighton 2014
Understanding conflict: forms and legacies of violence
Three doctoral studentships are available within the University of
Brighton’s newly established interdisciplinary research cluster,
Understanding conflict: forms and legacies of violence. These
studentships are based jointly in the Centre for Applied Philosophy,
Politics and Ethics and the Centre for Research in Memory, Narrative and
Histories, the cluster builds usable understandings of violent political
conflict and its human legacies, developing two areas of
interdisciplinary investigation rooted in the recent work of the two
research centres. They are for defined projects (follow links for
further details):
Histories, memories and the sites and spaces of conflict: tropes of
haunting in negotiating violent pasts
The politics and ethics of drone bombing in historical context
War, policing and the state: new forms of violence?
AHRC-funded studentships (PhD and MA) available through the TECHNE
Doctoral Training Partnership
These studentships require a project to be formed and submitted by the
applicant. Applications are invited particularly in the following
specialist supervisory areas (click on link for further details):
History, Philosophy, Politics and Cultural Studies
Cultural Studies, Popular Culture, Media and Digital Economy
Design Practices
Art Practices, Photography and Visual Communication
History of Design, Fashion and Art
Each studentship is worth £60,000 and will support full-time doctoral
study over a three-year period. These 16 studentships are one element in
a range of postgraduate research opportunities. Deadline for
applications 4pm 20th February 2014. Interviews 10–21 March 2014.
