XX International Conference of the Spanish Society of Journalism: Contemporary and Future Journalism. Research, Teaching and Innovation



The XX International Conference of the Spanish Society of Journalism will be held at the Poblenou Communication Campus (Barcelona) from Friday 13 June to Saturday 14 June, 2014.



The conference will be proudly organised by the Spanish Society of Journalism – Sociedad Española de Periodística (SEP) and the Communication Department and the Faculty of Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona), and it will be based on lectures by International and Spanish specialists and papers from professionals and researches on the Journalism field.



The organising committee would like to encourage you to submit an abstract according to the following thematic areas:



1. Communication theories and public opinion.

2. History of journalism. The Political Transition in Spain. Careers of certain journalists.

3. Ethical and deontological challenges in contemporary and future journalism. Quality and credibility in the information. Freedom of expression.

4. Journalism as a public service: public televisions and radios. Communication policies.

5. Risk and crisis communication.

6. Intercultural challenges in contemporary journalism.

7. Business models and information companies: consequences of the economical crisis on journalism, new funding ways, the end of print newspapers. Structure of social communication.

8. Press offices and news agencies.

9. Specialised areas of journalism: theories and case studies. Cultural journalism, scientific journalism, sports journalism, international journalism, politics journalism, economics journalism…

10. Journalism design, computer graphics and photojournalism.

11. Digital journalism and new technologies.

12. Participation, new channels and new contents. Social movements and human rights.

13. Teaching communication: how to teach the new journalism. Innovative teaching projects. Teaching journalism after the Bologna process.

14. Complementary areas: journalism and cinema, journalism and youth, data journalism, brand journalism, content curation…





Paper submission



Abstracts must be submitted by Friday 28 February 2014, although early submission is encouraged. Abstracts should be sent on an attached document to the following e-mail address: (sep2014 /at/ upf.edu).



Abstracts should not be longer than 300 words and should include: title, topic introduction, objectives, methodology and main conclusions. They should also include 5 or 6 keywords and their related thematic area. In the same document, the author should add his or her name, e-mail and affiliation, and a short C.V. (2-3 lines). Each person will not be able to submit more than two paper proposals. Papers should be written in any modern Romance language or in English.



Abstracts will be written in Arial, 11 pt and 1,5 line spacing.



The acceptance will be notified on March 15, 2014.

Full paper submission



Full paper submission must be submitted by Thursday 15 May 2014 on an attached document to the same e-mail direction: (sep2014 /at/ upf.edu).



Full papers will be written in Arial, 11 pt and 1,5 line spacing. They will be no longer than 7.000 words, including bibliographical references. References will be placed at the end of the document in a “References” section according to the APA style. Footnotes or end notes will be used in exceptional cases.



Proceedings will be published on a CD. The scientific committee will send a selection of the presented texts to be considered for publication in indexed scientific journals. The following journals are already confirmed: Textual & Visual Media (Latindex, DICE, ISOC, Dialnet); Periodística (Latindex, DICE, RESH, RACÓ, MIAR, ISOC, Dialnet, CCUC); and Comunicació. Revista de Recerca i Anàlisi (Latindex, DICE, RESH, RACÓ, MIAR, ISOC, Dialnet, CCUC). The final publication will depend on the reviews carried out by each journal.



The congress organisation admits the off-site presentation of papers as an exception and only if it is justified and approved by the organising committee.
