[ecrea] Call for papers: journalism studies pre-conference Etmaal van de Communicatiewetenschap 2013
Tue Oct 23 03:11:45 GMT 2012
In association with the Erasmus University Rotterdam the Netherlands
Flemish Communication Association, division Journalism is proud to present:
The Journalism pre-conference Etmaal van de Communicatiewetenschap 2013
Insiders and Outsiders in the Journalistic Field
Wednesday February 6th, 2013, Erasmus University Rotterdam
Aim & theme
During the past decade the journalistic field has been under increasing
pressures. One of the consequences has been that new lines were drawn.
Lines between insiders and outsiders, between free lancers and
institutional journalists, between off- and online, between professional
and civic journalists and between successful and unsuccessful new
business models.
After Kees Brants en Peter Vasterman set an agenda for journalism
research in the Netherlands and Flanders in a special issue of
Tijdschrift voor Communicatiewetenschap (2010), it is now time to
consider where that agenda has taken us. We will be exploring the
current state of journalism with a special eye for the relationship
between those who are on the inside and those who are on the outside.
During the conference there will be ample time for discussion.
Keynote speaker
We are very happy to present our keynote speaker Ansgard Heinrich, from
the University of Groningen, as she is the author of one of the most
interesting books on journalism from recent years. Network Journalism.
Journalistic Practice in Interactive Spheres (Routledge, 2011) deals
with the interplays between journalistic practice, digital technologies
and globalization. It deals with the question how media practitioners in
the UK, Germany and the US working in various traditional and
alternative media outlets are coping with the challenges of today’s
digital communication flows.

In the second half of the conference we have reserved space for PhD
students in the field of journalism studies to present their recent
