Advance Invitation to the first in the ESRC
'Educational Futures' Seminar Series
You are invited to attend the first seminar in
an interdisciplinary ESRC funded series on
Educational Futures, to be held at the Education
and Social Research Institute, Manchester
Metropolitan University on December 15th, 2009.
At a time when billions of pounds are being
spent on â??building schools for the futureâ??,
in which ideas of economic and environmental
futures are subject to rapid change; when new
bio-technologies are thought by some to promise
to offer radically new human/technical futures,
and when it is suggested the consequences of our
actions are likely to be ever longer lived,
strategies are needed for critical reflection
and research into our ideas about and
understandings of the future. This seminar
series will bring together researchers from
multiple disciplines to explore the intellectual
tools and resources, the existing traditions and
new departures that might be mobilised to help
us contribute to thinking intelligently and
critically about the future in order to help us
make better decisions in education today.
More details about this seminar and the series are attached.
Places are strictly limited and allocated on a
first come first served basis and this series
will be advertised more widely in one weekâ??s
time. Should you like to attend, please RSVP to
