[ecrea] CFP--proposed SCMS panel

Wed Aug 05 20:21:53 GMT 2009

I'm trying to put together a panel for the Society for Cinema and Media Studies annual conference. The 2010 SCMS Conference will be held March 17-21 in Los Angeles.

Proposed Panel: Experiences through the Ether: Radio in our Past, Present and Future

This year's SCMS conference asks scholars to "consider the ways in which the past informs current practices." In keeping with this directive, this panel seeks to explore the past and ongoing presence of radio around the world.

Individual papers may include scholarship on a specific program or programs, historical initiatives designed to fill purported gaps in programming, overlooked but important men and women who helped shape radio over the last century, or studies examining how particular groups of people consume radio in its varied forms.

As well as historical work, this panel is open to considerations of the future of radio in an age of podcasts, satellites and media consolidation.

If you are interested please send me a reply off list before August 15, 2009.

Best, Amanda Keeler
