Gender and the Digital Divide
With information and communication technologies (ICTs) evolving at
breakneck speed as the industrial society that marked the 20th century
rapidly gives way to the information society of the 21st century, the
bridging of the 'digital divide' is now high on the global development
agenda. One of the key elements of the concern over the digital divide
is the recognition that women within developing countries are in the
deepest part of this divide, further removed from the information age
than the men whose poverty they share.
