CALL FOR PAPERS
GENRE
An Interdisciplinary Conference
at the London College of Music & Media, a Faculty of Thames Valley
University.
Friday September 20th 2002.
The conference will seek to bring together the ideas of scholars researching
the topic of genre. We will consider new formulations of the significance
and role of genre, visiting the current boundaries and debating the state of
genre theory and criticism. It is anticipated that the conference will be
relevant to those working in the fields of Film and Television Studies,
Literature, Translation, Art History, Musicology, Media, Communication and
Cultural Studies. A publication featuring selected conference papers is
planned.
SUGGESTED TOPICS
We would welcome contributions that relate to the areas listed below, but
will take into consideration any topic of relevance to the theme of genre.
* Definitions of genre and enquiries into the usefulness of genre as a
theoretical and critical tool
* Considerations of particular texts in relation to their genre(s)
* Feminist modifications of genre definitions
* The role of genre in pedagogy
* Genres that cross media forms
* Genre and translation
* The place of genre in production
* Hypertext and the question of genre
Please submit abstracts of 250 words to Dr Jeremy Strong by the 31st May
2002.
