The European Journalism Centre in co-operation with the European

policies. The courses consist of a one-day seminar in Brussels to meet key
representatives from DG Enlargement and three days in the Candidates
Countries to
discuss in depth important enlargement-related issues with local
decision-makers
and representatives from the European Commission's delegation.

ESTONIA: NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND INNOVATION
Brussels, Tallinn, January 13-17, 2002

Estonia will be considered as a full member for the purpose of
participation in the Sixth Framework Programme, which is of
crucial importance in an enlarged Europe. Research and new
technologies are the first areas of EU policy to open fully to the
candidate countries. The role of R&D will renew infrastructures, halt
the brain drain, modernise technology and improve the environment.

TURKEY: BUSINESS AND TRADE
Brussels, Ankara, January 13-17, 2002

The European Union has always been at the forefront of trying
to build a new global trade round and to achieve true market
liberalisation. The effort to update and improve the World Trade
Organisation is one of the priorities of the EU. Turkey and the
other candidate countries have to adapt to this EU strategy and
to the world market rules. The seminar will look at how Turkish business
will compete in an enlarged Europe.
Our local partner is the Centre for European Studies of the Middle East
Technical University of Ankara.
