EU - OPT-OUT STANDARD FOR COOKIE-BASED PROFILING

The European Parliament has approved changes to the Cookie
legislation, setting opt-out as the standard for cookie-based online
profiling. The Parliament's Committee on Citizens' Freedoms and Rights,
Justice and Home Affairs has approved online data regulations specifying
that websites and marketers should not be required to ask users to "opt
in" to cookie-based profiling. According to a statement by the group
published in Advertisingnews.com, they believe "it would suffice merely
to guarantee users the possibility of accessing clear information on the
purposes of cookies." The directive will probably be voted in May where
it must pass with a majority of 314 votes.
