Alfonso M. Rodríguez de Austria and Cristina Algaba are pleased to
announce the publication of /Deconstructing the Zombie: Cultural and
Ideological Approaches/

The book is published in open access (follow the above link) and offers
a comprehensive examination of the zombie figure as a symbolic
representation of the individual across different historical moments.
Through analysis of literary, cinematographic, serial fiction and video
game productions, it explores how zombies denounce alienated attitudes,
urge rebellion against systems of power, and reflect racial, gender,
social and class prejudices.
The study covers a wide range of topics concerning the zombie universe,
offering a complete analysis divided into six significant areas: 1.
Power, Labour, and Economy; 2. Ethics, Religion, and Society; 3. Flesh,
Bodies, and Gender; 4. Politics and Ideology; 5. Geographical
Adaptations; and 6. Social and Cultural Manifestations. The book
features contributions from international scholars examining works
spanning from early zombie cinema to contemporary serial fiction and
video games, including /The Walking Dead/, /iZombie/, and /The Last of
Us/, as well as zombie representations across American, Japanese,
Italian, Cuban, Spanish and Nigerian cinema.
The book is published by Dykinson and includes 28 chapters exploring the
zombie's continued presence in our cultural agenda, particularly
relevant in times of social, economic and political uncertainty.
They expect this volume will appeal to scholars, students, and general
readers interested in cultural studies and critical theory.
