issue<https://www.liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk/toc/jbs/2024/Spring>address
the ‘Hamburg period’ of the Beatles’ history; how the contemporary press
has treated Paul McCartney’s recollections of how the Beatles became
politically conscious in the 1960s; new perspectives on one of the
Beatles’ most maligned recordings, ‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer’; and the
role of leadership in underpinning the creativity and cohesion of the band.

la mort de Paul McCartney’ [‘Poppermost: Thoughts on the Death of Paul
McCartney’].

reviews ‘Blackbird: How Black Musicians Sang the Beatles into Being’ by

the band’s relationship with black music; Marlie Centawer considers
Deirdre Kelly’s ‘Fashioning the Beatles’; and Christian Lloyd reports on
‘Living the Beatles Legend: The Untold Story of Mal Evans/’/ by Kenneth
Womack. Finally, Ben Winsworth reads James McGrath and Peter Mills’s
