[Commlist] Arab Media and Society Issue 35, Winter/Spring 2023 Media & Fake News

We are pleased to announce the publication of our 35th issue on “Media & 
Fake News”. In this issue we address the increasing challenges posed by 
misinformation within the digital media domain with particular reference 
to the Arab region. In the English section, articles explore topics 
including news literacy, misinformation and narrative construction and 
its impact on migration, detection of fake news and deep fake, a digital 
ethnography of Hamas’ Palinfoen Twitter account, and crime news coverage 
in the UAE through the lens of Social Responsibility Theory. A review of 
the volume Fake News in Digital Cultures is also included. The Arabic 
section boasts research on awareness of deceptive reviews online, using 
AI to detect fake news, media literacy, and fake news interaction on 
social media.

Dr. Ahmed El Gody (Örebro University, UAEU) served as a guest editor on 
this issue.
