[Commlist] The Journal of Beatles Studies - Open for Submissions

Liverpool University Press is delighted to announce a call for 
contributions for the fourth issue of /The Journal of Beatles Studies 
<https://www.liverpooluniversitypress.co.uk/journal/jbs>/. The aims of 
the journal are to provide a voice to new and emerging research locating 
the Beatles in new contexts, groups and communities from within and 
beyond academic institutions; to inaugurate, innovate, interrogate and 
challenge narrative, cultural historical and musicological tropes about 
the Beatles as both subject and object of study; to publish original and 
critical research from Beatles scholars around the globe and across 
disciplines.

*Submit your research *

The editors invite original contributions of 6-8,000 words that set out 
empirically and critically informed ideas for a future-facing agenda for 
the study of the Beatles, identifying existing paradigms and suggesting 
new directions, agendas and methodologies for research. The journal 
elicits peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary articles encompassing 
scholarship about, but not limited to:

• The Beatles as academic object

• The historical moment of the Beatles

• The music of the Beatles, including issues of composition, recording, 
performance, reception and interpretation

• Beatles fandom and communities

• Social identities and the Beatles

• Beatles geographies

• The legacy of the Beatles

• Cultural value and the Beatles

• The Beatles as heritage object

• The global Beatles

• Beatles historiography

• Mediation of the Beatles

• Beatles pedagogies

• Economics of the Beatles

• Archiving and collecting the Beatles

• Sustaining the Beatles

*How to submit*

Abstracts of 500 words inclusive of an indicative bibliography and short 
biography should be submitted to the editors by *31 August 2023*.

Please note the editors cannot accept article proposals for this issue 
after this deadline. Unfortunately, we cannot accept unsolicited 
articles at any time.

Notification of invitation to authors to submit articles will be sent by 
30 September 2023

Deadline for submission of full article drafts: 30 November 2023

Deadline for submission of revised articles: 01 January 2024

Publication date: March 2024

Publishers who would like to submit Beatles-related books and media for 
review consideration can contact the editors at the below email address.

*Proposals for future special issues & guest editors*

Proposals for special issues should include a 500-word summary 
explaining the concept and context of the special issue, recommendations 
and contact details of proposed guest editor(s), as well as indicative 
lists of potential contributors and article ideas.

*Creating a network of Beatles scholarship*

The journal is also seeking to build an editorial board reflecting 
global perspectives on the Beatles, helping to define, shape and 
critique the purpose of this site of scholarship. We will be seeking 
contributions to future editions and aim to organise events on and 
offline to aid exchange and networking. Senior academics and/or industry 
practitioners with relevant interest should submit expressions of 
interests to journal editors via the above contact information.
