[Commlist] PhD by Prior Publication (Creative Practice) Scholarships
Wed Jan 30 00:15:26 GMT 2019
Val Bogan Memorial PhD Scholarship
TU Dublin is offering two scholarships to new, part-time, doctoral
candidates in the specific area of a PhD by Prior Publication through
creative practice. The scholarships, located in the Centre for Socially
Engaged Practice-Based Research (SEPR; http://www.dit.ie/sepr), are
designed for established media practitioners, visual artists, curators,
architects and designers, wanting to engage critically with their
exhibited works and/or written publications (4-5 in total) completed
during the past decade.
The part-time 2-year PhD by Prior Publication through completed
practice-based research consists of a thesis of 20-30,000 words, which
should be comparable in terms of quality and rigour to that of the
practice-based PhD, amounting to an original contribution to new knowledge.
This pathway affords established mid-career practitioners – some of whom
are employed in universities in and outside Ireland – the opportunity to
reflect theoretically and methodologically on their body of creative
practice generated during the past decade; the practice may include any
one or a combination of the following artefacts but not limited to:
public exhibition and performance, curations, film screenings,
exhibition catalogues, critical reviews, peer-reviewed papers, book
chapters, monographs and books.
Each scholarship will take the form of an annual contribution covering
the registration fee as follows:
• EU students: €3000 per annum
• Non-EU students: €6,000 per annum
The successful applicants will join a cohort of doctoral scholars in
SEPR and will benefit from participating in an established
practice-based environment, which has pioneered a 2-year PhD by Prior
Publication pathway in Ireland, with an emphasis on socially engaged
practice-based research.
Interested applicants should submit an expression of interest,
accompanied by a CV no later than February 15 to Dr Alan Grossman
(Director of SEPR).
For informal inquiries, please contact Dr Anthony Haughey
((anthony.haughey /at/ dit.ie)) and Dr Alan Grossman ((alan.grossman /at/ dit.ie)).
