[ecrea] Position Announcement: assistant professor of media studies, Florida Atlantic University

The School of Communication and Multimedia Studies in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in media studies to begin in August 2018. We are looking for a candidate with research and teaching strengths in social and cultural approaches to media. Media studies courses in the SCMS traverse three BA degree sequences: Multimedia Journalism; Film, Video, and New Media; and Communication Studies. Teaching includes undergraduate courses such as introduction to multimedia studies; mass communication theory; sexuality and media; and digital social media as well as graduate classes for the M.A. in Communication Studies. Areas of research specialization may include but are not limited to queer studies, transgender studies, feminist studies, Chicanx/Latinx studies, and African-American studies. The nine-month salary is $60,000 plus benefits. Summer teaching is normally available on a separate contract.

Transcripts for faculty positions must be an official copy scanned into an electronic format and attached to the application. Degrees from outside the United States must be validated by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Service (NACES), with an indication of the documents from which the evaluation was prepared (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts). The evaluation should be scanned and electronically attached to the application. An unofficial transcript may be used during the hiring process to assure that the prospective faculty member may be credentialed for the courses they are expected to teach. An official transcript sent directly from the institution is required for the Provost's credential file prior to the first day of employment.

FAU's School of Communication and Multimedia Studies enrolls approximately 1,200 undergraduate students across two Bachelors of Arts Degrees including a Bachelor of Arts in Multimedia Studies with a sequence focus in either Multimedia Journalism or Film, Video and New Media and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies. The School also offers a Masters of Arts in Communication Studies and a Masters of Fine Arts in Media, Technology and Entertainment.
