[Commlist] CFP: Bloomsbury Book Project - Pokémon 30th Anniversary

A call for papers has been issued for an upcoming edited volume entitled:
“Gotta Study 'Em All: 30 Years of Pokémon,” to be tentatively published by Bloomsbury Academic in 2026. The project has received initial interest from the commissioning editors at Bloomsbury.

The volume will explore the enduring cultural, social, and economic significance of the Pokémon franchise as it marks its 30th anniversary. Submissions are welcomed from a broad range of disciplines, including media and cultural studies, internet research, game studies, education, psychology, and related fields.

Suggested topics include, but are not limited to:
Fan cultures and participatory practices
Augmented reality and the Pokémon GO phenomenon
Nostalgia, affect, and transmedia storytelling
Pokémon as an educational or therapeutic tool
Worldbuilding, aesthetics, and localization
Comparative analyses of global media franchises

Proposals should consist of an extended abstract (800–1200 words), a proposed title, and a short author bio.
Deadline for submission: June 30, 2025
