Identities and Representations Between Violations and Recognition

Online Sessions:
University of Enna "Kore" (Italy) – 22–23 September 2025

In-person Sessions:
University of Palermo (Italy) – 24–26 September 2025

GENDERCOM is an annual academic conference that brings together over one hundred scholars from various disciplines to discuss gender studies with a particular emphasis on communication. The 11th edition, jointly organized by the University of Enna "Kore" and the University of Palermo, will address cultural and social dimensions of gender construction and representation.

The conference will also focus on issues of rights, violations, power asymmetries, sexuality, reproduction, bodies, and sports. Special attention will be paid to contemporary tensions between binary gender definitions and the recognition of a broader gender spectrum, including LGBTQIA+ rights and inclusivity.

The event is promoted by the Research and Transfer Network in Communication and Social Sciences (INTRACOM) and co-organized by the University of Seville and Sapienza University of Rome.

Conference Sessions Include:

    Gender identities and beyond: rights and inclusion of trans and
    non-binary people

  *

    Violence against women: policies, services, prevention and
    counter-strategies

  *

    Gender role construction: sociological, psychological, and
    educational perspectives

  *

    Old and new models of masculinity and femininity

  *

    Gender inequality and power distribution in politics, work, and society

  *

    Sexuality and sexual orientation: biological, cultural, and
    psychosocial dimensions

  *

    Genders, bodies, and sports

  *

    Early researchers panel – Gender studies: issues and perspectives
    (reserved for PhD students and post-docs)

Submission Guidelines:

Abstract proposals (max 500 words, excluding references) should clearly outline the research question, methodological framework or critical approach, main findings or conclusions, and relevance to the conference themes.

Participation is free of charge for authors; no payment will be required.
