Tue Nov 05 22:44:20 GMT 2024
We are very excited to share that we are hosting another online course
on arts-based research methods 😊. Led by Dr Robyn Muir, Lecturer in
Media, and Dr Maria Adams, Associate Professor in Criminology from the
University of Surrey on 11th December 2024, please see link for details:
https://www.surrey.ac.uk/cpd-and-short-courses/art-based-research-methods-online
This is a part of the University of Surrey Day Courses in Social
Research: https://www.surrey.ac.uk/sociology/study/cpd-and-short-courses
This course will explore the importance of art as a research method that
contributes to qualitative approaches. This session will discuss the
theoretical ideas in applying the use of art as a method. Further, we
will learn about the benefits and challenges in using art, and how this
can assist in the research design. The session will explore the
practical issues in applying art as a method, and how this can
complement other proposed methods in the named study. In this, we will
look at the types of groups and research settings that may benefit in
participating in arts-based methods, and lastly, this session will
explore the ethical considerations in adopting arts-based methods, and
we will explore in depth how art-based methods can influence the
dynamics between the researcher and participants.
We encourage anyone who is interested in arts-based methods and in
particular ECRs, academics and practitioners in the field.
