[Commlist] CFP: edited volume on influence of technology on the translation industry
Thu Nov 23 13:05:12 GMT 2023
We would like to invite contributors to an edited volume on the
influence of technology on the translation industry. Professional
translators, educators, and researchers are encouraged to offer their
vision concerning the implications of digital advancements in this
field.____
__ __
We intend that this book should offer insight in the implications of
technological impact on the translation industry. Technologies, such as
computer-assisted translation, machine translation, or large language
models, have altered the landscape of the industry by making translation
faster and cheaper. Moreover, converting from language to language was
made available to a layperson who casually uses an app in their
smartphone to understand a foreign word. How do these advancements
impact the translation market? What do the stakeholders think? Are
translators happy? Are they afraid that they can be replaced? What
should translators do to adapt to the promptly changing medium? Does the
translation quality change? These and some other questions remain
largely unanswered. The answers are wanted, however, because translation
is critical to the global economy. With this book, we initiate a broader
discussion among the members of the professional community and
researchers, and we hope that practical solutions and guidelines can
arise from this forum.____
__ __
The book is going to be edited by an international team:____
- Ruslan Saduov, Assistant Professor of English for Academic Purposes at
Innopolis University, Russia, professional translator, researcher, and a
former TAPP member.____
- Monika Banaś, Professor at the Faculty of International and Political
Studies at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland.____
__ __
The book is likely to be published by Springer (the publisher interested
in the topic) or another international publishing house of recognition.____
