[Commlist] Call for participants for Generic Visuals, Journalism, and Misinformation workshop

Thu Jun 01 14:17:16 GMT 2023

We are inviting applications for the below workshop on the 14^th of June in London, UK, an opportunity for free training from Full Fact, one of the world’s leading fact-checking organisations, on the role of news images in misinformation.

Generic Visuals, Journalism, and Misinformation

Generic visuals are images which have standardized formats and appearances, which perform particular design functions, and which circulate with increasing frequency in the news media. This workshop focuses on the role that generic visuals play in the production and reception of news. How do these aesthetic forms assemble publics and influence the way people think about political and personal issues? What is the relationship between generic visuals and misinformation? Join the workshop “Generic Visuals, Journalism, and Misinformation” at__The Foundry, the London offices of Full Fact. The Generic Visuals in the News project team and Full Fact educators will be there to answer these questions, talk about project findings, and more during this participatory / interactive series of workshops.

The workshop will close with the launch of an exhibition from the Generic Visuals in the News project in the atrium of The Foundry.

Generic Visuals in the News is funded by the AHRC and led by Professors Giorgia Aiello, Chris W Anderson, and Helen Kennedy.
