[Commlist] Call for Essays: Series on UK Comics for Henry Jenkins' Confessions of an Aca-Fan

Dr William Proctor and Dr Julia Round are curating an essay series on 
British comics for Henry Jenkins’ ‘Confessions of an Aca-Fan’ website. 
We have commissioned a number of essays already on various topics, but 
we’ve yet to cover many important subjects such as /The Beano/and /The 
Dandy/(and other weekly comics like /Topper/, /Buster/, /Cor/etc.), war 
comics (/Victor/,/Commando/), UK horror comics (/Scream/), sports comics 
(/Roy of the Rovers/, /Champ/), /2000AD/,the British Invasion (Alan 
Moore, Neil Gaiman, Grant Morrison etc.) – and many others! (It’s a rich 
tradition, so we’re unlikely to cover everything but it’s worth trying 
at any rate...)

Essays should be anywhere from 2K to 4K (but if more words are needed, 
then don’t worry – it’s a website, not a paper). They can be 
journalistic, academic, or discursive in style – the format is entirely 
up to you. We will also be able to include images, and with the traffic 
that the website receives, we believe this is an ideal opportunity to 
articulate the varied histories of UK comics in all their 
black-and-white and four-colour glory, especially for US comics scholars 
who are less aware of the British comics scene of the past.

expressions of interest. The deadline for essays is the first week of 
September, but we may be able to offer more time as we’ll be publishing 
two essays per week (depending on interest) so we may be able to stagger 
submissions as and when necessary.
