1st Call for Papers

Welcome to the 40-year anniversary symposium of VAKKI ry on February 
6-7, 2020!

The symposium is arranged under the theme of Workplace Communication.

Workplace communication comprises many different forms, such as texts, 
service encounters in different professional fields, face-to-face 
meetings as well as digital interaction. The common nominator to these 
settings is that they are connected with professional roles and 
identities and interwoven with institutional practices.

We call for presentations, posters, and workshops that interconnect for 
example with the following topics related to workplace communication:

-Working life communication in the context of leadership, management, 
marketing and technology
-Identities, relationships and interaction
-Multimodality and visuality
-Digital media
-Terminological research and terminology work
-Languages, discourses and communication skills in working life and academia
-Methodological and ethical challenges in the research of working life 
communication

Topics can be approached from the perspective related to the study of 
language or discourse, technical communication, organizational 
communication, strategic communication or teaching of these.

The Symposium’s keynote speakers are:

    Prof. Crispin Thurlow (University of Bern, Switzerland)
    Prof. Dorien van de Mieroop (University of Leuven, Belgium)

The working languages of the symposium are Finnish, Swedish, English and 
German.  Presenters are invited to submit their papers after the 
symposium to the VAKKI publication, which is a JUFO 1-level reviewed 
open access publication. The publication will published at the end of 2020.

Participants may contribute with a presentation (20 min + 5 min 
discussion) or present a poster. We also welcome proposals for workshop 
topics. The purpose of the workshops is to provide participants with a 
less formal setting to exchange intellectual ideas and to share 
practical experiences on focused topics. Please submit your proposals 
(max. 300 words) for workshop themes as attachments (in rtf or doc 
format) to symposium2020[at]vakki.net by October 31th, 2019. Further 
details on registering for the workshops will be provided in the second 
Call for Papers.

As for section presentations and posters, please submit your abstracts 
(max. 300 words) to symposium2020[at]vakki.net as attachments (in rtf or 
doc format) by December 3rd, 2019. Please state in the message your 
name, your affiliation and whether your proposal concerns a section 
presentation or a poster. Also mention if you are giving your 
presentation together with someone else. The papers will be selected 
based on the scientific quality of the abstract. Notifications of 
acceptance will be sent out by December 17th, 2019.

Willkommen zum 40. Jubiläumssymposium des VAKKI-Vereins 6.−7.2.2020!

Das Thema des Symposiums ist Kommunikation im Berufsleben. Das Thema 
deckt viele verschiedene Kommunikationsformen ab wie Texte, 
Dienstleistungssituationen in verschiedenen Branchen, Sitzungen und 
Treffen sowie digitale Kommunikation. Diesen verschiedenen Situationen 
ist gemeinsam, dass sie mit beruflichen Rollen und Identitäten sowie 
institutionellen Praktiken verbunden sind.

Wir heißen Vorträge, Poster und Vorschläge für Workshops willkommen, die 
beispielsweise folgende Themen der Kommunikation im Berufsleben aufgreifen:

-Kommunikation aus verschiedenen Perspektiven, z. B. Management, 
Marketing und Technologie
-Identitäten, Beziehungen und Interaktion
-Multimodalität und Visualität
-Digitale Medien
-Terminologieforschung und -arbeit
-Sprachen, Diskurse und Kommunikationsfertigkeiten im Berufsleben und in 
der akademischen Welt
-Methodologische und ethische Herausforderungen in der Erforschung der 
Kommunikation im Berufsleben

Die Themen können beispielsweise aus der Perspektive der Sprach- und 
Diskursforschung, der Technischen Kommunikation, der 
Organisationskommunikation, der strategischen Kommunikation oder ihrer 
Vermittlung im Unterricht behandelt werden.

Die Plenarvortragenden des Symposiums sind:

    Prof. Crispin Thurlow (Universität Bern, die Schweiz)
    Prof. Dorien van de Mieroop (Universität Leuven, Belgien)

Die Arbeitssprachen des Symposiums sind Finnisch, Schwedisch, Englisch 
und Deutsch. Nach dem Symposium haben die Vortragenden die Möglichkeit, 
ihre Manuskripte für eine peer-reviewte open access -Publikation (JUFO1) 
einzureichen, die Ende des Jahres 2020 herausgegeben wird.

Bei dem Symposium können Sektionsvorträge (20 Min. + 5 Min. Diskussion) 
gehalten oder Poster präsentiert werden. Wir bitten auch um Vorschläge 
für Workshopthemen. Die Workshops bieten den Teilnehmenden eine 
flexiblere Umgebung, die zu Diskussion und Erfahrungsaustausch zu einem 
abgegrenzten Thema einlädt. Vorschläge für Workshopthemen (bis zu 300 
Wörtern) sollen als Attachment per E-Mail (rtf- oder doc-Format) bis zum 
31.10.2019 an die Adresse symposium2020[at]vakki.net geschickt werden. 
Im 2. Rundbrief wird weiter über die Anmeldung zu den Workshops informiert.

Die Abstracts für Sektionsvorträge und Poster (bis zu 300 Wörter) sollen 
als Attachment per E-Mail (rtf- oder doc-Format) bis zum 3.12.2019 an 
die Adresse symposium2020[at]vakki.net geschickt werden. In der Mail 
sollen Name/Namen des/der Vortragenden, Universität und 
Präsentationsformat (Sektionsvortrag/Poster) mitgeteilt werden. Die 
Vorträge werden auf Basis der wissenschaftlichen Qualität der Abstracts 
ausgewählt. Spätestens am 17.12.2019 benachrichtigen wir über die 
Annahme der Vorträge/Poster
