Fri Jan 23 11:29:05 GMT 2015
Call for expressions of interest:
Edited Anthology on ‘Music in Comedy Television’
Philip Hayward and Liz Giuffre invite expressions of interest in an
anthology they are proposing for publication on the theme of Music in
Comedy Television.
International scholars interested in genre, television, screen
soundtracks, audience studies and/or cross media engagement are invited
to pitch potential chapter ideas for the collection.
Abstracts of 250 words should be submitted to (liz.giuffre /at/ mq.edu.au) by 1
February, 2015. The authors of approved abstracts will be required to
deliver chapters of 5000-6000 words to the editors by July 20th 2015.
While we are open to suggestion, we would welcome proposals on the
following topics:
· Classic Sitcom Theme Tunes and their role establishing genre
· Music’s role when television comedies get remade: The Office in
the US and UK
· The role of music in and beyond Monty Python’s Flying Circus
· Music in The Simpsons
· Music’s role in different types of comedies on television –
beyond sitcoms and including ‘tonight shows’ and variety shows
· Developing comedic characters using music
· Music in sketch comedy shows
· TV comedies about music and musicians
Philip Hayward previously co-edited Science Fiction Television with
Kevin Donnelly (Routledge, 2012) and has written and edited a number of
other books on popular music and screen media. Liz Giuffre’s research
covers various intersections between music, television and genre,
including journal articles and book chapters on comedy, fantasy, popular
music and cult television.
