We invite all fellow researchers to participate in the thematic issue 
focused of Contemporary Journalistic Narratives of the Brazilian 
Journalism Research (BJR), a biannual journal published by the Brazilian 
Journalism Researchers Association (SBPJor). Articles must be submitted 
no later than February 28th 2015 and author guidelines are available at

Thematic Issue: Contemporary Journalistic Narratives

The act of narration is accompanying us since the dawn of civilisation 
and is one of the main actions in the process of trying to make sense of 
the world and turn chaos into cosmos. Creation myths, heroic epics, 
historical deeds were narrated in order to give meaning and guide the 
lifes of individuals, confer identity to people, organise their 
societies and construct a collective memory, as well as establish nexus 
about many points of the world as experienced by them. With the rise of 
the press, narratives also became part of the journalistic praxis, be it 
in its own genres, e.g. the sketch or reportage, or in other enunciative 
sites.

In the contemporary world, the art of the narrative is practiced in 
several levels in the press and broadcasting media, as well as in 
digital environments – such as portals, websites, blogs and social media 
of the most diverse natures –, mixing several different media, sometimes 
repeating itself over and over, sometimes overcoming its and their 
boundaries. In the Journalism Studies field, the discussion on narrative 
are present in several domains that aim to reflect on the narrative 
construction and its relations to historical, sociological, aesthetic, 
discursive, ideological, economic and psychological aspects, among others.

Wishing to systematise discussions and concepts on Journalistic 
Narratives, Brazilian Journalism Research is open until February 28th 
2015 for submissions to its thematic issue on Contemporary Journalistic 
Narratives (v.11, n.1 jan./jun. 2015). The issue will cover manuscripts 
that focus on the narrative and journalism issue through many possible 
approaches, which may include (however are not limited to):
- Journalistic Narratives as an environment for representations and 
mediations;
- Journalistic Narratives and their relation to journalistic praxis;
- Epistemological aspects of studies on Journalistic Narratives;
- Methodological issues of the field, including discussions on methods 
such as Life History, Oral History and Family History etc, as well as 
techniques such as In-Depth Interviews;
- Journalistic Narratives and the subject;
- Intersections of journalism and other fields of knowledge in the 
production of journalistic narratives;
- Narrative as an aesthetic and discursive strategy in journalism;
- Panoramic or individual analyses of relevant authors or narrative 
genres (biography, profile, travel writing, essay etc);
- Journalistic narrativity in specific segments: politics, science, 
sports etc;
- Journalistic Narratives and the construction of gender, ethnicity, 
sexuality etc;
- Journalistic Narratives and the new media.

Texts must be between 30.000 and 40.000 characters long (including 
spaces). Since Brazilian Journalism Research publishes two versions of 
each issue (Portuguese/Spanish and English), authors of accepted 
manuscripts submitted in english must provide a translation to 
Portuguese or Spanish by the deadline we inform below. Likewise, authors 
of accepted papers submitted in Portuguese or Spanish, must provide an 
english version.
