Media and Education in the Digital Age - MEDA
Second and Last Call for Papers: Storytelling and Education in the Digital Age: Challenges and Opportunities
We seek contributions for a collection of essays about storytelling in 21st century education.
Successful submissions will engage explicitly with at least three sets of questions concerning the functions of storytelling in education, the changes brought about by the so called 'digital revolution', and the risks and opportunities associate to these changes.
*	The functions of storytelling - What are the functions of storytelling in education? Why is storytelling important on educational grounds?
*	Change - what is the impact of digital technology on the functions of storytelling in education? Do these changes create conditions in education and in the broader society that require fundamental changes in the nature and processes of storytelling? To what extent, for example, does the incredulity of the 'postmodern condition' affect the social and educational functions of storytelling? Or are these changes overrated when it comes to the fundamental functions of this communicative practice?
*	Risks, challenges and opportunities - What are the risks, challenges and opportunities associated with the impact of digital technologies on the traditional functions of storytelling?
This collection is the second book project of the research programme Media and Education in the Digital Age - MEDA.
Coherently with the mission of MEDA, in this collection the emphasis should be on practical problems, with conceptual or theoretical issues addressed only when strictly necessary to clarify the nature of these problems. This collection is primarily designed for a composite audience of media and communication students, teachers and educators. Our main goal is to gather relevant information, knowledge and opinion concerning the past, present and future educational role of storytelling in the digital age. We thus invite prospective authors to avoid jargon, to be explicit about the assumptions and the methodological workings of the approaches used in empirical studies, and the conceptual basis of the arguments used in the discussion of relevant problems.
Please also note the following:
Submission package should include an abstract not exceeding 500 words, and a one-page CV containing affiliation and personal contact details.
