*Scandinavian fiction in film and television *(PhD-course: March, 12-14,
2014. Place: University of Copenhagen)
Scandinavian fiction in film and television has experienced great
success in recent years, not only in Scandinavia but also
internationally. This course will focus on different aspects of
Scandinavian fiction in film and television, present and historically.
Among the issues covered are; defining aspects of small national
cinemas, genres in Scandinavian fiction, the Scandinavian art film,
television drama and the tradition of realism in fiction and documentary
genres. The approaches presented will be historical, aesthetic and
institutional and will include the study of production processes and
forms of reception. However, other approaches to Scandinavian fiction
and related issues are welcome. There will be lectures from invited
speakers and the organizers, and there will be presentations by the
participating PhD students. Invited speakers are: Andrew Higson
(University of York), Claire Thomson (University College London) and Ib
