[ecrea] Vacancy - Course Leader - Digital Television Production (Practice and Theory)

Salary: £44,839 p.a. + Benefits

A full-time vacancy has arisen to lead Ravensbourne’s new Digital Television Production BA (Honours). The course has been developed through a wide consultation with industry and has been highly commended for being forward facing, innovative, and exciting. This is likely to become one of Ravensbourne’s flagship programmes of study, building on our longstanding reputation for training television directors, producers, cameramen and women, and broadcast technologists.

The post-holder will also be encouraged to undertake applied research into Digital Television, working (for example) with television and distribution companies, and with the wider creative industries.

The successful candidate is likely to have the following skills and outlook:

An advanced knowledge of ‘traditional’ television production and operations processes and techniques - live/recorded/studio/location.

The ability to oversee, and teach, the use of Media Asset Management systems, including ingest and retrieval, and tapeless production processes.

Enthusiasm for, and an understanding of, digital television including ‘Connected Television’ and ‘Second Screen’ practices and emerging production processes including the capture and re-purposing of content for viewing on other devices.

An awareness of emerging audience consumption behaviours and socio-economic eco-systems relating to digital television and IP-delivered televisual media.

Experience of working within a digital production culture which is increasingly blending broadcast and new media paradigms. An understanding of the use of Agile project management techniques to meet deadlines, and how the television (and televisual) industries manage inter-disciplinary teams.

Enthusiasm for exploring new ways of teaching Digital Television, for example through extra-curricula Boot-camps organised for re-enforcing practice, the use of online ‘sandpit’ areas to assist students to learn how to run online video channels/stream TV, and the exploration of TV apps.

The enthusiasm and drive to draw together staff and sessional teams to create a ‘Production House’ which will enable the Digital Television students to work on projects with (for example) Ravensbourne’s Broadcast Technology, Web Media, Motion Graphics, and Editing and Post Production courses.

The ability to contribute to both internal and external activities such as promoting the course at conferences, encouraging work placements, liaising with industry, and representing the Digital Television Production BA Hons. nationally and internationally.
