& Call for papers
A UOC workshop, organized in cooperation with the
Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (IN3)
The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya in conjuction
with the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute is
pleased to invite you to participate in this
workshop to be held in Barcelona on setember 15,
2009. This full day workshop will take place at
the Department of Law, Universitat Oberta de
Catalunya (UOC), Avda Tibidabo, 39-43, 08035
Barcelona. Telf. (0034) 93.253.23.00.
It will be an excellent opportunity to exchange
and debate about the trends of ADR/ODRs, their scope and core principles.
PRESENTATION
This workshop is part of a legal studies program
undertaken at the UOC at nacional and
international level n ADR/ODR, with the aim of
making progress on the building of ?bridges? that
will allow interoperability between the current
two existing pathways on justice administration
(deliberative/adversarial justice). As it is
known, ADRs and ODRs embody methods or processes
that have emerged spontaneously on account of the
Courts collapse, and are becoming catalysts of
the two traditional systems of conflict solving between individuals.
On the basis of previous and successful meetings
and symposia held internationally by experts,
providers and practicioners, the purpose of this
workshop is to initiate an open and reflexive
dialogue and to share ideas, with the longterm
objective of building up a common legal
framework. Previous events have revealed the
enormous potential of online dispute resolution
services and the problems of growth related
mostly with the lack of basic and common
standards and the current dificulties for
interoperability between in and out of court methods.
We are interested in exchanging information and
ideas, in knowing current academic activities
related, and work-in-progress of ADR/ODRs
research in this field. We propose to analyse the
scope of private autonomy and also to identify
common principles and standards governing ADRs
and ODRs, with the aim of making the first steps
towards the delineation of a regulatory legal
internacional framework. Interoperability between
ADR/ODRs and Courts demands some level of
uniformity, especially in cross jurisdictional
conflicts that can be performed through the Internet.
This meeting, opened to experts, practitioners
and scholars, is an invitation to a joint
reflection on the legal formal and substantial
articulation of all these tools and Courts.
