TRANSNATIONAL CINEMAS
Inaugural symposium of the Centre for Cultural and Creative Research (CCCR),
University of Portsmouth
Marking the launch of the journal Transnational Cinemas
Saturday 13 February 2010
Explorations of transnational exchanges in film culture have emerged in
response to an increasing awareness of the limitations of conceptualising
cinema within strictly national boundaries. This symposium brings together
some of the most respected scholars working in the field of transnational
cinema studies. Speakers explore the transnational dynamics of cinema from a
range of perspectives, including historical investigations of
transnationalism,
critical analysis of contemporary theory, and the reception and
distribution of
blockbusters from East Asia.
Speakers:
Dr Will Higbee (University of Exeter)
Professor Andrew Higson (University of York)
Dr Song Hwee Lim (University of Exeter)
Professor Dina Iordanova (University of St. Andrews)
Paul Kerr (London Metropolitan University)
Michael Pokorny (University of Westminster)
Professor John Sedgwick (London Metropolitan University)
Dr Niamh Thornton (University of Ulster)
