Call for Papers

Focus Theme: Globalization and Electronic Commerce

Dear Colleagues:

EM - Electronic Markets is a key forum for advancing
the understanding and practice of electronic markets
and commerce (http://www.electronicmarkets.org).

Guest Editors: Rolf Wigand, University of Arkansas at Little Rock
               Ken Kraemer, University of California at Irvine


This special issue intends to embrace a wide and rich
array of topics addressing globalization effects within
the field of electronic commerce.  The Internet and
electronic commerce have brought countries and regions
together to create a global networked economy. The Internet
and many information and communication technologies (ICT)
largely ignore national boundaries, yet the people and
firms using these technologies operate within nations
characterized by rather different national environments
and conditions. For this issue we are inviting
contributions based on empirical research examining:

-  the global diffusion of Internet-based e-commerce,
-  how national environments and policies influence
   e-commerce use within countries,
-  the economic and social impacts of e-commerce.

We are especially interested in research examining these
developments on a multi-country or regional basis.

Electronic Markets (EM) is the premier international forum
for advancing the understanding and practice of electronic
markets and commerce. EM is a peer-reviewed journal and
has been published since 1991. It was the first journal
to report on the developments and trends in electronic
commerce, as well as the policies, system concepts,
methodologies, impacts, and cultural changes related to
this rapidly evolving field. As such the journal embraces
the entire range of electronic "market" issues -- covering
not just transactions but also the wider process of
information-seeking and distribution, negotiation, trust,
risk-taking, customer relationships, buyers finding
sellers, sellers finding customers, after-sale service
and support.

EM is a multidisciplinary journal whose audience includes
scientists, policy- and decision-makers in government,
industry and education; professionals concerned with the
effects of the electronic commerce revolution,
organizations and society; and scholars with an interest
in the relationship among information technologies, new
forms of commerce and social change.

Each issue of EM is also open for submission to articles
which deal with topics of general interest to the electronic
commerce field. For further information, please visit the

EM accepts papers between 3500 and 6500 words in length.
Please refer to the Contributors Section for our templates
(Cover page and Manuscript Template) to submit your article.

Important Deadlines:

Submission: 1 May 2003
Acceptance Decision:  1 October 2003
Publication: Early 2004
