[Commlist] PhD opportunity: " Syrian Identities in the UK "

Katerina Strani likes to draw your attention to the PhD Scholarship 
offered by the School of Social Sciences, Heriot-Watt University, on the 
topic of " Syrian Identities in the UK ".

The scholarship includes £15,609 annual stipend for three years 
(increased each year in line with UKRI studentships), plus tuition fees 
waived and a research support allowance of £2,250.____

This project, located in the area of refugee and migration studies, will 
explore the theme of ‘Syrian Identities in the UK’. ____

Sub-themes can include but are not limited to:____

____

·Diasporic identities and their relationship to place.____

·(Dis)placement, resettlement, liminality and post-traumatic identity 
formation. ____

·Community and place-making.____

·Syrians’ concept of ‘home’ in the context of displacement.____

·Memory, nostalgia and the language of recollection among the Syrian 
diaspora.____

·Race, ethnicity, othering and their roles in Syrian refugees/migrants’ 
identity negotiation and formation.____

Candidates are encouraged to consider theoretical frameworks such as 
critical race theory, postcolonial theory or feminist theory/gender and 
intersectional perspectives. This project should be undertaken using 
ethnographic methods or mixed qualitative methods such as narrative, 
visual, textual analyses, interviews or participant observation.____
