About the Role

The School of Business and Management (SBM) seeks to recruit an 
outstanding researcher and teacher to a Lectureship or Senior 
Lectureship in Creative and Cultural Industries. Applicants for the 
senior lectureship will be established academics with strong publication 
records, while applicants for the lectureship will be at least at 
post-doctoral level. This post offers an opportunity to make a major 
contribution to the development of the MA in Creative Industries and 
Arts Organisation, the MA in Heritage Management, the new Centre for 
Sustainability and Resilience through Arts, Culture and Creativity, and 
the Department of Business and Society. The successful candidate will 
develop their interdisciplinary research agenda along with innovative 
teaching practices in a rapidly growing, diverse, and distinctive 
management school. We are particularly interested in candidates who have 
developed critical and innovative perspectives on the creative 
industries and arts organizing: this includes critical race and labour 
studies, feminist and queer organisational theory, postcolonial and 
decolonial re-framings of management and organisational behaviourand 
other cross-disciplinary, innovative approaches.

About You

As a Lecturer, you will lead and deliver postgraduate modules for our MA 
in Creative Industries and Arts Organisation and contribute teaching to 
the MA in Heritage Management. You will provide supervision for 
dissertation projects within the Department of Business and Society. You 
will be able to assist in finding and developing work placements for 
students, for the MA in Creative Industries and Arts Organisation. You 
will help to develop a Degree Apprenticeship for undergraduates in the 
creative and cultural sector. You will have completed a doctorate (or 
have a doctorate under examination) in a relevant subject. The 
successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the capacity for 
collaborative and interdisciplinary research and knowledge exchange with 
the creative economy businesses and to publish at an internationally 
excellent level. For the senior lectureship, the successful applicant 
will already be an established academic and be expected to have a strong 
publication record with demonstrated potential to publish at the 
world-leading level. You will contribute to the development of the 
Creative Economy Research Institute.

An experience of and willingness to undertake administrative roles would 
also be desirable at the Senior Lecturer level. The successful applicant 
will have the ability to demonstrate a good understanding of practice as 
well as a commitment to cross-disciplinary learning and research-based 
teaching. We are looking for someone with a keen interest and expertise 
in new methods of pedagogical engagement suited to our particular and 
diverse cohorts of students.

About the School of Business and Management, and the Department of 
Business and Society

The School of Business and Management is one of the eight schools in the 
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The School has been 
undergoing a period of rapid growth, doubling our number of academic 
staff over the last five years. We presently have 90 academic staff. We 
have over 1,600 undergraduate business studies students plus 
approximately 800 students taking business in combination with other 
degree subjects within QMUL. At the post-graduate level we have 
approximately 800 MSc students and a well-established doctoral programme 
of around 80 doctoral students.

SBM’s core purpose is to promote social justice, sustainability and good 
governance in the management of private, public and voluntary 
organisations through our research and education. We are a distinctive 
School that takes a humanities and social science-led approach to our 
scholarship, and are now the largest school within QMUL’s Faculty of 
Humanities and Social Sciences, with its traditional strengths as a site 
of critical thinking in the humanities, law, history, geography and 
politics.

The Department of Business and Society brings together colleagues, 
committed to excellence in teaching and research, with a wide range of 
expertise from different disciplines. In our teaching and research we 
focus on how business and management influence society (for example, in 
economic development, through innovation in environmentally beneficial 
products and systems, through responsible management practices, by 
management in the non-profit and public sectors and in businesses in the 
creative and cultural industries), and how society shapes business and 
management (for example, through law and regulation but also through 
changing norms and expectations for equality and diversity and 
environmental sustainability).

The post is based at the Mile End Campus in London. It is a full time, 
permanent appointment, with an expected start date of 1st September 2021 
(or earlier). The starting salary will be Grade 5/6, in the range of 
£42,433 - £52,833 per annum for those appointed as Lecturer, or in Grade 
7, in the range of £55,840 - £62,415 per annum for those appointed as 
Senior Lecturer, in both cases inclusive of London Allowance.
