[Commlist] Programme leader Post for Journalism in the Liverpool Screen School

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the Liverpool Screen School, Liverpool John Moores University, to lead the long standing and highly successful Journalism team. The subject area includes the following programmes of study: BA Journalism, BA Sports Journalism, MA Journalism, MA Sports Journalism, MA International Journalism, MA International News Journalism and the International PhD programme.


Journalism in the Liverpool Screen School is well-known and has an international reputation for providing a range of successful, quality programmes at both undergraduate and post graduate level, some of which are accredited by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council and the National Council for the Training of Journalists. The subject area has long established links in China with further international connections in the pipeline that this post holder will take a lead in developing.

The School has strong links with local, national and international media organisations including the BBC, ITV, Reach plc, Sky News, National Union of Journalists, Radio Academy, Index on Censorship, Association for Journalism Education and One World Media. The region also has around 25 radio stations, the national velodrome and countless football, rugby union and rugby league clubs.

The city boasts a vibrant culture and LJMU is proud of its many connections with local media and arts organisations, including the Liverpool Echo, Radio City, Lime Pictures, ITV and the BBC, The Everyman and Playhouse, The Unity Theatre, The Royal Court Theatre, The Liverpool Philharmonic and The Liverpool Tate.



The Liverpool Screen School, part of LJMU's Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies, offers undergraduate and post graduate programmes in the departments of: Film Studies, Journalism and Media Production.



The post holder will line manage staff in the Journalism area and be part of the senior leadership team within the school, responsible for taking the area forward, leading initiatives across the school and representing the school on faculty and university committees.



The Screen School is developing its strategic priorities in research, postgraduate provision, internationalisation, public engagement and enterprise activity. Reporting to the Subject Leader, you will lead these developments in the Journalism team, whilst also undertaking teaching, programme management and administrative duties across the Journalism portfolio.
