We hope the following Call for Papers will be of interest to some of you:
*“Researching Creative Practice: Terminology, Policy, Models”*
*/Alphaville: Journal of Film and Screen Media/ Issue 17, Summer 2019

Editor: Ciara Chambers, University College Cork ((ciara.chambers /at/ ucc.ie)

Editors of Creative Practice Dossier: Davide Abbatescianni and Dan
O’Connell, University College Cork
((creativepractice.alphaville /at/ gmail.com)
<mailto:(creativepractice.alphaville /at/ gmail.com)>)
Research has been published on creative practice encompassing a broad
range of arts (Barrett and Bolt), in some cases focussing on the visual
arts (Sullivan), the performing arts (Nelson) and, more recently, the
impact of technology on practice (Baker and Sicchio).  While some of the
debates raised in these volumes may also be relevant to film and
audiovisual media, relatively few books concern themselves exclusively
with the burgeoning area of creative screen practice. This issue of
/Alphaville/ will focus on film and screen media, raising
strategic questions and addressing some of the gaps in the current
discourse pertinent to creative screen practice. In particular, there
will be a focus on how outputs “produced by researchers who use
artistic practice as the engine of their investigations” (Gibson vi) are
currently evaluated and valued within and outside the academy.
The issue will include both scholarly articles and a dossier of case
studies. The deadline for abstracts is June 15 — please find the full
