*_University of East Anglia, Saturday 21st April 2018 _*

Feminist Media Studies Research Group at the University of East Anglia invites proposals for an international symposium on Gender, Media and the Middle East. The symposium is intended to bring together scholars from around the world interested in exploring these topics in relation to a range of media including film, television, radio, video, and digital media. Papers may be historical or contemporary in scope.

Keynote speaker: Abeer  Zeibak Haddad (Director, /Women of Freedom/, 2017)

/Women of Freedom/follows the stories of women who were murdered in the name of ‘honour killing', in the Arab and Palestinian society. The director, who witnessed such tragedy in her own life, embarks on a journey – wandering through Israel and Palestine, collecting various stories of the victims, the survivors and the killers themselves.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

* women’s media production in the Middle East
* feminist activism and/in the media
* women’s use of media in the Middle East
* gender politics, cultural identity and Middle Eastern media
* women as consumers of Middle Eastern media

Please send abstracts of *250 words* together with a short (max 100 words) biography to *(gendermediamiddleeast /at/ gmail.com)* by *Friday 16th February 2018*. We will notify applicants by 5^th March 2018.
