The Department of Film Studies at the University of St Andrews invites applications for September 2019 entry to our PhD programme. There are a number of doctoral fellowships and scholarships available for applicants, including the Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities (SGSAH) AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership, Wolfson Foundation St. Andrews Doctoral Scholarships, University of St. Andrews St Leonard's College Postgraduate Scholarshipsas well as internal departmental and school fellowships.

Situated in one of the UK's most beautiful university towns, the department of Film Studies at St. Andrews maintains an ambitious research programme in global film cultures, with staff expertise ranging from early cinema to digital media to transnational film. The department has an especially vibrant culture of post-graduate research. PGR students have opportunities to collaborate on an annual conference and study day, edit and contribute to the student-run Frames Cinema Journal <http://framescinemajournal.com/>, teach undergraduate seminars, use travel and research funds for conferences and library purchases, and participate in weekly research, teaching and community events organised by the department. The programme is distinguished by its multifaceted approach to film culture in diverse global and intermedial contexts and currently has over 20 Ph.D. students, stemming from five continents.
