[ecrea] New position for PhD candidate in media education

The Department of Education and Lifelong Learning (IPL) at Norwegian 
University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is seeking a PhD candidate 
in the field of media education.

The PhD candidate position focuses on applicants who are interested in 
the media education field, i.e. educational processes in the 
intersection between media culture, school culture and day-to-day life. 
The position will be connected to the researcher group MEDLiE (Media 
Literacy and Education Research Group) and the newly launched research 
project ELEMENT – Exploring learning and Living through Media and New 
Technology Practices. This project explores how media practices play out 
in the lives of young people – how do they learn, how do they create 
meaning and master life in our media-dominated culture? The aim of 
ELEMENT is to collect qualitative data about media use, the social 
practices media use is part of and the research participants’ 
reflections on their own media practice. We want to invite the PhD 
candidate to contribute to the design of a research program where the 
media practices of young people are studied in different arenas in 
everyday life, in school and during leisure time. The PhD candidate may 
develop approach proposals and relevant research questions.

The purpose of the PhD candidate position is to strengthen the 
research-based knowledge on the media practices of the young. The 
primary goal for the candidate is to develop his or her researcher 
competence in the field of media pedagogy.

A relevant background for this position is a completed Master’s degree 
or equivalent education in pedagogy, media science or another social 
science or liberal arts subject.
