*CALL FOR PAPERS: Philosophy of Communication*

‘Philosophy of Communication’ is a very broad expression. Although it seems to be involved with philosophy and communication, it is not taken for granted that philosophy of communication is the part of the field of communication or philosophy. We usually assume to think that if one thinks the concept of communication thoroughly, it means to think it philosophically. Communication theories and studies have designated the core intention, to understand what communication is and how we communicate. However, communication theories and /or studies are basically not a /philosophy of/ communication.

Adorno states that ‘if philosophy can be defined at all, it is an effort to express things one cannot speak about, to help express the nonidentical despite the fact that expressing it identifies it at the same time’ (as cited in Hogh, 2017, p.151). On the other hand, communication is usually composed of just the opposite, what the /expressible/ is. Speech and language imply ‘to express out loud’ while ‘unsayable’, ‘unnamable’, ‘silence’ and so on have been decoded as if they are also a sort of speech. In this sense, communication always makes its subject matter expressible. Therefore, Adorno’s point, to ‘/express the inexpressible/’,is not just valid for philosophy but also for communication.

There is no doubt that interdisciplinary study means to develop new perspectives in order to expand the boundaries of fields. As one of the interdisciplinary study, philosophy of communication needs to be demonstrated by following the /inexpressible/. Moment’s upcoming Philosophy of Communication Issue will focus once again on the significance of asking what philosophy of communication is. The question, what makes a study, a study of philosophy of communication, gives rise to consider this field’s past, present and future. You may define, redefine and/or non-define philosophy of communication, in order to present your study as a study of philosophy of communication.

If you would like to contribute to Moment’s June 2018 /Philosophy of Communication Issue/ which aims to both discuss and create philosophy of communication, we are waiting for your studies until *March 15, 2018*. Although suggested themes below are included in this issue, we would like to remind you that you are not limited to these themes to express your /inexpressible/ sense of philosophy of communication.
