PhD in Media Studies, University of Bergen


Department of Information Science and Media Studies, University of 
Bergen, has a vacant position as PhD in Media Studies. The position is for

a fixed-term period of 4 years, of which 25 per cent of the time each 
year comprises obligatory duties associated with research, teaching and 
dissemination of results.


We are looking for a PhD-project either within the field of audience 
studies or media policy. Within audience studies we will give priority 
to research on online media / social media and their audiences. The 
position is open for various approaches and methods within audience 
research, but it will be an advantage if the proposed project relates to 
concepts such as democracy, participation, community, and relations 
between users and producers.



Within media policy we are in particular looking for research on the 
regulatory implications of digital technology. We welcome research 
proposals on single media, media structure, or regulatory challenges 
regarding digital infrastructure of distribution, e.g. the Internet.

The proposed project may be limited to Norway, but both areas are open 
for studies of international conditions and/or comparative studies.



Qualifications and personal qualities:

  *   The applicant must hold a master's degree or the equivalent in 
Media Studies. The degree has to be completed by the application deadline
  *   The requirements are generally a grade B or better on Master 
thesis and for the Master degree in total.
  *   Work independently and in a structured manner, and have the 
ability to cooperate with others.
  *   Proficiency in both written and oral English
